Flying While Pregnant - Helpful Tips

Hello Loves...

A very Happy And Prosperous New Year 2018 to you all and your families :). I hope the best for you guys :*

Today, I am going to share some tips with you all if you are pregnant and planning to fly sometime soon. I came to India this December and I was 24 weeks pregnant at that time. I was very scared to travel (was flying alone) and I think most pregnant ladies must be if they are travelling for the first time.
So, with my experience, I want to share some tips with you all, trying to help you guys to make the decision of flying according :).

So, let’s get started ;)

1. Consult your doctor

This one is the foremost important step. Before planning your trip, just discuss with your doctor if your pregnancy is safe enough for you to fly. Even if you are going on a 2 hours flight. It is very important to consult your doctor as he/she knows the best about your health. Plan only if your doctor allows you to do so.

2. Check with the airline

After a certain time, some airlines do not allow pregnant women to travel in their planes. So, it’s better to check on their site or by giving them a call if you are allowed to travel according to their policies or not. Usually, airlines allow women to travel who are up to 27 weeks pregnant and some even allow up to 36 weeks. So, it all depends on the airline you are travelling with.

3. Carry your medical reports

Always carry your pregnancy reports with you wherever you go, even if it is just for 2 days. Specially, if you are flying, you might need to show your reports at the check in counter as sometimes they ask for it to check if your pregnancy weeks are within their policies.

4. Try to check-in online

If possible, check-in 48/24 hours before your flight. It allows you to choose your seat and meal. Also, there is a seperate lane for internet check- in passengers, so you don’t have to wait in long queue.

5. Aisle seat

Always like to fly with that beautiful view of clouds and oceans? Sorry to disappoint you but trust me, at this point you really need to go for an aisle seat. The reasons are - your bathroom visits (which you understand) and also you need to walk around time to time in the plane which I will discuss in the upcoming points.

6. Seat with leg space

If it is possible for you, book business class or premium economy class for flying as their seats are very comfortable and have a lot of leg space which will be very comfortable for you. If these seats are not possible for you, try to get the very front seats of the economy class. There are no seats in front of them so enough room for your legs to move. You can select that seat while doing online check-in (if available) or request it at the check-in counter. These seats are super comfy.

7. Dress comfortably

If you are flying at the end of your second trimester, your baby bump is big enough to make you uncomfortable to wear tight clothes. So, go for some loose clothes like one piece dress, Kurti with palazzo which is loose enough from your tummy area.

8. Stay hydrated

If you are pregnant, you already know how important it is for mums to be to keep their body hydrated all the time and if you are flying, it becomes even more important to drink a lot of fluid as at such a height your body gets dehydrated very fast. So, don’t depend upon the water that the airline serves you. Keep your own bottle with you and request them to keep on filling it for you as it gets empty. Don’t be shy. And that’s why aisle seat is a savior for you as more water intake means more toilet visits :D.

9. Keep something to eat

It can be sandwiches, snacks, paranthas, fruits or anything you like to eat because in the plane, they will give you the meal one or two times (depending on the duration of the flight) but if you are pregnant, you need to eat something every 2-3 hours. So, it’s better to keep yourself packed with all your favourite things to eat.

10. Hand sanitizer

A hand sanitizer will be very helpful and handy for you when you don’t want to go to toilet just to wash your hands or when their is a long queue at the toilet and you really want to eat your food. Just use your hand sanitizer and your hands are germ free ;)

11. Walk after some intervals

It is very important to keep on circulating blood into your body and you cannot do that by just sitting at your seat all the time. Try to walk in the plane every 30-45 minutes. Take help from the air hostess if you are not confident of walking alone like that. While sitting, keep on moving your legs time to time. This will really help you to have a comfortable flight.

12. Don’t hesitate to say something

It is not necessary that you will definitely get an aisle seat. Don’t worry if you get middle or a window seat. First, try to ask the passenger on the aisle seat if he/she can exchange the seat with you. If they agree, that’s great. But if they don’t, please don’t hesitate to ask them to move if you want to go to the toilet or for a walk. It’s for your baby.

These are some tips for all mums to be who are planning to fly during their pregnancy. Hope these tips will help you out and make your travel experience comfortable and easy :)
